       Welcome to my Jewish Genealogy web site.

 

 

It has been over ten years since I first placed this site on the Internet for all to freely use.  There has never been a charge and my goal has always been to keep this site up to date - as much as humanly possible.  You can't imagine the amount of hours and days I have personally given to make this site well recognized in the world of Jewish Genealogy. 

This site doesn't have a staff ... nor much money to keep it up to date, and I realized that in order to stay up and running and meeting your expectations of making it easier to find your Jewish roots, I had better spend more time updating my site.  And so I am now in that process of checking every link ... (and there are thousands of links to check).  I have found many "dead" links possibly due to those sites not being able to compete with this Internet world.  And it is competitive.

Fortunately, my site really doesn't have competition.  My site offers every other site's link address only restricted by time to get to adding a new site to my list.  So as I review each page -- country by country - subject by subject --- I am spending my time on making sure the links are still active and still available --- and, most importantly,  still valuable to your personal family research.

I don't have a staff ...  in fact I wish I did, but I came to realize, long ago, that to have a staff means paying wages.  Heck, I don't even pay myself! 

But it does cost to maintain this site and as you will note below, there have been almost 225,000 hits and growing.  That's a lot of use and it costs to keep this site available 24/7.  So please, send some money to help maintain the expense of keeping this site up.  It will be appreciated and maybe, just maybe I can get some help.

Some geneticists theorize that everyone on earth is at least a 50th cousin to someone else - and both Albert Einstein and Charles Darwin married their first cousins. If you go back far enough to Jacob, you'd be related to every genetic Jew; if you go back to Adam and Eve, -- to all mankind.

This web site began as a 'place holder' for the many links that I had reviewed and felt were worthwhile to re-visit in the future as I was developing my own family tree. Later, when I decided that these links and bits of information would benefit other genealogists , I made the decision to share this information with all who want to research their own Jewish roots.  My site isn't perfect, nor is it complete, but it sure beats having to search a lot of records at the Library or all over the net.  And it's free! 

The idea of my site wasn't to create another web site, nor another web portal, but to serve as a fountainhead  of what exists already.  It is estimated that there are over 8,000 Jewish web sites. I'll never be able to list them all in my lifetime, but I hope someone will in the future.

The intelligence consists in describing the content of those various web sites, so that it becomes easier for people to locate those web sites that provide reliable  information on specific subjects.  The current method of searching the web is to use various search engines - my goal is to offer as many of those sites that you would need to crawl - but in one place.

When entering my web site each time, you will find that each Link provides you with easy, one-click accessibility by Country and/or by specific Subject -(all in alphabetical order) -- to the thousands of web sites that I have visited over the past ten-plus years. Any address included in my web site has been verified that it offers some Jewish genealogical information however, links do change and some will not work. 

Please note that some links will not work MAINLY BECAUSE a site HAS BEEN moved to a different address after I have posted it's address.

When you come across a "dead link", I would appreciate it if you would let me know via e-mail. Some links are very important - others are portals to other links or offer detailed information to help you in your research. My email address is located at the bottom of each page.

Genealogy is all about sharing information, particularly in those geographical areas where there was considerable movement among a few closely-situated population centers. By tracing our pasts, we may understand our present a bit more thoroughly. There is a kinship when you meet another Jewish person.  There is history, shared culture and connection, no matter what you think about religion.

Most importantly, it represent an entrée to the wonderful world of discovering your ancestral history. I hope that I have made it easier for you in your searching out the family.

            But remember to use the internet as one tool ...
                                       but not the only one!

Although the amount of data on the internet relating to one's research is constantly growing, not everything is yet on-line and probably won't be for many years to come. The lesson to be learned here is "be patient."

With your computer --- some research --- and the Internet, you can be a time-traveler --- discovering your own past --- seeing how your characteristics came down to you, and finding what you want to pass on to your children --- and theirs.

If you are anxious to start ... go ahead ... click on any button to your left -- or at the bottom -- of all pages. Some pages have additional links to other pages on my web site i.e. Lithuania offers a link to Lithuanian Shtetls etc.

And please don't forget to bookmark my site and also share my site with your friends and relatives.  I suggest you visit weekly as I am constantly adding to every page as more information is gleaned from the Internet and other resources.

Why are there ads ?

* I would like to say that I am wealthy, but I'm not, so in order to pay the expenses related to developing and providing this web site, I needed to create a method to help defray my out-of-pocket costs. I never liked the idea of soliciting, so the best alternative, I found, is to allow selected sites advertise their products or services with the only stipulation being that they offer some value to researching one's Jewish roots.
