"Only in quiet waters do things mirror themselves undistorted. Only in a quiet mind is adequate perception of the world."
Hans Margolius (No known relative)
Welcome to my web site
This is a good place to start.
There are just a few things you should know, to make your navigating my web site easier and without any
frustrations. Let me have your attention for just a few minutes, if you will.
You can always go back to the "Home" page at any time, by just clicking on
the "Home" button in the far left column or at the bottom of every page.
First choose a
Country
or a
Subject button from the side bars
to your left
(on some pages, click on
'Home'
and then select the
Country or
Subject) - - you will also find links running along the bottom of each page so
you don't have to scroll up. You will find a lot of help in the form of links and information as you research your ancestral roots on each page.
As you browse the various pages, you'll find thousands of links and bits and pieces of information relating to researching
your Jewish genealogy, but you don't have to be Jewish to find value in using my site. But if you
do find it useful, then please BOOKMARK my site and come back and visit it often. More links -- and more information will be added as fast as my fingers can type. My site will always be 'under construction'.
Note on your left side the names of
Countries and
Subjects currently available. If you click on any one of
them with your mouse, you will be immediately taken to the page containing the Subject or Country you are interested in. Once you have finished reviewing a site, you can go onto any other web page by just clicking on another country or subject indicated on your left side of the page or at the bottom of each page. It is
impossible to get lost, if you just click on
Home at any time. Some pages have additional links which show up in
RED.
Those links will take you into more depth on the subject or country you are
reviewing at the moment.
Below, note the table of Countries and Subjects where more than one country is included on the same web
page (i.e. Balkans contains Czech, Bosnia, etc.) or more than one subject is included on a particular page
(i.e. Names, Surnames, Definitions, etc.)
Frankly, the best way to view my site is to just to explore because what you have in front of you are thousands of links and bits and pieces that I have gleaned from my surfing the web these many years. That's how I found many of these sites.
You may find pieces of information that you personally have submitted in the past. Now, perhaps someone else will benefit from your effort, as I hope you will from my own effort. All I have done these past ten or so years is put those pieces into a logical and alphabetical order. You'll see what I mean as you explore. And if you do find an error, or an update, or should you have any kind of a comment, please don't hesitate to let me know by sending me an e-mail
Jwebindex@gmail.com or use my
Feedback page.
Any Subject or Country underlined below is a
HYPERLINK (a.k.a. link) and as such, you can just click on
any underlined item and you will be taken to that page. The spelling of a country name (or shtetl) is not
necessarily the one you may have seen before, but I have tried to maintain some consistency in the spelling
i.e. Bukowina vs. Bucovina
Underlined in
Blue
usually represents a link to the Internet. Underlined in
Red
usually represents a link to another page
within my web site. Let this site be helpful ... and not intimidating to those who are just starting out in
their researching their Jewish roots.

You will find, on many of the Country sites, just a name of a town or city without any further information. I
have placed the name of many Shtetls that have been indicated as being occupied by Jews at one time. Many
times it is hard to find a good translation program.
At some point in the future, either through contributions by fellow site readers, or by my entering further information from my tons of notes, I hope to cover these blank spaces with information. If you do have
further information and/or sites, please send me an email and be sure to identify the name of the town
and the country it should be located in - within your e-mail.
Enjoy!
