Yes Cousin!  If we go back about 50 generations, we are all related.  The purpose  of this web page is to someday prove that you and I are/were related.  Send me the URL (address) of your Family Web Page site and I'll add it to the list of family web sites that have already been identified below.

Now, more than ever, web pages are popping up on the Internet every day and many offer a possible connection to your family. All you need do, is search any and all of those listed below. Somewhere the odds are good that you will find a connection. For thousands of years, our Jewish heritage was passed on from parent to child and from teacher to student, creating an unbroken thread of history. Now, it's your challenge to identify your thread and pass it on to your children so that they can continue this tradition.

Any person who can trace a purely matrilineal link to a Jewish woman, according to traditional Jewish law, can regard themselves as Jewish without regard to continuity of Jewish religious practice or identification.  There are many people in the world who are "Jewish," but either don't know it, or who have chosen not to claim their lineage.  From a posting by Matt Friedman

There are many family clans that have elaborate family trees that go back quite ar.  But the most comprehensive family tree known is the Katzen-Ellenbogen tree which connects to many Ashkenazic families.

When you develop your own family web page, let me know so you can increase your odds. Send an email to and I'll add your family page to this list.

GedFamiies

The company that developed Families released GedFamilies (Android, iOS, $7.99).  It is nearly identical to Families.  The big difference between the two apps is that Families only works with Legacy Family Tree databases, while GedFamilies works with a GEDCOM file.  That basically means that if you use ANY genealogy database software that can generate a GEDCOM 5.5.1 file, you can use the GedFamilies app and have your family tree on your Kindle Fire.  Just like the Families app, you will need to download and install a syncing program on your computer.  Don't have a Kindle yet?  Buy it now at

Blatt/Blad/Platt family
In the R
evue du Cercle de Genealogie Juive, #102, Pascal FAUSTINI investigates the surnames Blad, Blatt and Platt, suspecting they share the same roots. Starting in Metz with Fratie, daughter of Amram Moshe Blad, who signs her children's premarital agreements from 1738 onward, the search continues via Rixheim in Alsace, Worms, Frankfurt and finally Bingen. The author makes use of all available written and printed sources and finally of the tombstone inscriptions of the Bingen cemetery. Thus he traces the Blatt/Blad/Platt family back to a Kalman Salomon Blad dead on March 7, 1653 in Bingen. Exploiting Ele Toledot, now online on the Salomon Stinheim Institut website, further namesakes, probably also originating in Bingen, can be found, up to individuals living in the 16th century.

Hakim Family
The Ha-Levy (Hakim) family was considered an honored family among the Jews expelled from Spain. Later on, when they received the honorary title Hakim from the Sultan, they became the Ha-Levy Hakim family. It appears that at some point in time, the name Levy was dropped and the family became known as Hakim. But passing on from generation to generation that we come from the Levy family.

The family adjusted well to life under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. They lived in Egypt, Salonika (Greece), Menissa (Turkey), where Rabbi Yosef Yehuda Hakim served as Chief rabbi.

In 1868 he was appointed by the Sultan Abdul Aziz to be the Chief Rabbi of Smyrna (Izmir) Turkey, where the preceding Chief Rabbi was Hayim Palatchi, who served in this capacity for many years, until his death. Contact The Hakims at quest@webstazy.com

Pardess Family
A respected Sephardi family in Jerusalem. The website is
www.pardess.com

Most of it is in Hebrew with some Spanish links. The Family hails from Paredes de Nava in Palencia (Palencia) District in Iberia, hence it's name. The township has its own website. Documents in the family's possession and in Paredes de Nava indicate that parts of the family started migrating from Spain already in 1434. The family intends to have the next reunion in. The Sephardim, unlike the Ashkenazim, used to name their children after the grandfather while he was still alive and some given names roll in the family for at least 700 years.

Solomon Family
Samuel Solomon was from either Romania or Hungary. He married Esther Soloski, my mother's youngest sister. They were married secretly for three years because the School system in International Falls, Minnesota did not want married women teaching at that time, according to Myrle Solomon Erlich, her daughter and only child. My folks gave them a Brass Samovar which is back in my brother Frank's home. Myrle wrote a book titled "Patchwork" in which she describes her childhood growing up in International Falls.

Steinway
The piano making firm was founded in 1853 by German Jewish immigrant Henry Engelhard Steinway in a New York Manhattan loft. The company sold its first piano for $500. Their revolutionary designs and superior workmanship gave Steinway pianos almost immediate national and international recognition. Steinway instruments are now considered some of the finest crafted, with approximately 5,000 pianos produced annually and distributed worldwide.

Ziegler

German and Jewish (Ashkenazic): occupational name for a tiler, from an agent derivative of Middle High
German ziegelroof tile’ (Old High German ziagal, from Latin tegula), German Ziegel. In the Middle Ages the term came to denote bricks as well as tiles, and so in some cases the term may have denoted a brick maker or bricklayer rather than a tiler. View Family Facts
